Canada Geese:

One would think that the great ‘V’  shaped flocks of geese would be a welcome sight in the fall sky.  Many label them as a nuisance because they are everywhere - At the turn of the century this wasn’t so. Canada goose populations were dwindling and were completely nonexistent in some areas. Due to reintroduction programs in the 1960’s and 1970’s geese are back.... in staggering numbers. It is at the point today where some flocks do not migrate. Numbers show that hunters' take out about 2.6 million geese every year yet population numbers continue to climb.

Canada Geese carry around 150 different kinds of bacteria in their feces. 94% of it is made up of some form of E.coli and salmonella microbes. Parks and beaches in some parts of southern Ontario have to be shut down in the summer due to contamination of the park grounds or water contamination. Canada Geese are protected under the Federal Migratory Birds Act however, 'Scare' or 'Kill' permits can be acquired through the Canadian Wildlife Service (CWS).
